HOW TO RESET COMPUTER HARD DRIVE

Reformatting a hard drive wipes it clean of all data.
Hard drives develop errors and corruption over time, and these issues cause your computer to run more slowly and less efficiently. Some viruses can wipe out an entire operating system quickly. When this happens, the best way to correct the problem is to reset or reformat the hard drive. Reformatting the hard drive deletes everything on the drive, including the operating system. You can then perform a fresh install of your operating system, which will make your computer run like new again. Have a question? Get an answer from online tech support now!

    • 4
Load the operating system installation disc into the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer. When your computer restarts it will ask you to press any key to boot from the installation disk. Press any key.
    • 5
Choose to allow the operating system to format, and partition the hard drive with the default settings. If you are familiar with partitioning a hard drive, you can also choose to manually partition the drive.
    • 6
Select a username and password when prompted. Setting up an administrative account is very important for security purposes.
    • 7
Wait for the installation to complete. Remove the installation disc and restart the computer. Allow the operating system to load and then log in with your new account.
    • 8

    • 9
Load your personal data and files into the new operating system from the external storage media.
